February Coords Roundup

February always comes and goes in a flash. Although this particular one feels like a month of two halves, since the beginning was really cold, leaving me with very little motivation to dress up, and the end got much milder. My mood has definitely been all over the place and I think the outfits I’ve worn reflect that.

Coord 1: Wa Ouji

| Metamorphose Wizarding Lesson shorts | Innocent World blouse | vintage haori and brooch | MuFish tights | Deary shoes | offbrand belt |

You can kiiiind of make out my eye makeup, though I'm more proud of managing to get that that mini top knot in the shot.

The wear I got out of this brooch I found on eBay is insane.

Or more like an attempt at it. To be completely honest, my feelings are mixed. As an attempt with what I have, it’s not the worst. As a wa ouji overall, it definitely needs some work: a different shirt, different shoes, preferably even different trousers. Something more hakama-like would be much better and then I wouldn’t feel like between the length of the haori and that of the shorts things looked too boxy - but then if I just had hakama trousers with a haori, how is that ouji and not just a take on masculine wafuku? The balance is very delicate on this one and I’m not sure if I’m the best person to try and make this happen. Certainly not at this moment in time. But the attempt was fun and did the job of making me look fancy for the exam board meeting.

Coord 2: Asymmetry & Roses

| Bodyline Moulin High Waist skirt | Millefleurs Georgette blouse | Angelic Pretty Salon de The Rose OTKs | Irregular Choice Earl Grey shoes | flower clips in my hair are from Claire’s, the ones on my skirt are from other offbrand shops I don’t recall now | ring and necklace are handmade | brooch is handmade (not by me) |

Asymmetrical flower placement on an asymmetrical hairstyle. Even my beauty spot is only on one side (though I can't actually take credit for that).

Texture appreciation post.

Whilst I had ideas for Fluffy Kawaii Jo’s first Coord Mashup theme (purple and bunnies), it wasn’t working with what I have (might still do it eventually?). But the second one was perfectly up my street! I had roses everywhere: blouse lace, socks, as flower clips, in my jewellery, even my shoes were covered in small roses. Although I did consider using a dress with an actual rose print, like Georges Rose or Repose of Queen, this skirt was easier to work the asymmetry in and make the roses just as prominent. I enjoyed this coord, it was absolutely 100% unseasonal for early February, but it made me feel beautiful and elegant. And it’s great how without setting out to do so, my Coord Mashup submission ended up being ivory, mint and pink, which is Joelle’s colour palette!

Coord 3: Romantic Sunday

| Metamorphose Sailor Tiered skirt | Angelic Pretty Romantic Bright blouse | Red Maria tights | offbrand shoes and earrings | handmade bracelets | vintage gloves and belt |

Usually I'm not keen on neck ties, but they do make it easier to be casual.
Gloves are perfect for photos, not so much for doing anything.

To be honest, it wasn’t an actually romantic Sunday, but I’ve been feeling the Valentine’s Day mood and wanted to wear outfits that would reflect the mood for love. I guess you could say that wearing things you feel cute in is also an appropriate expression of self-love, which I wanted to focus on. But since this was a Sunday without a particular plan, I kept it on the simpler and more casual side - to the extent that there isn’t a hair accessory here. If I were to wear one, I’d probably go for a big bow at the back of my head, so it wouldn’t be visible anyway. All I did that day was take photos for my wardrobe post and cook in between chilling. I forget how tiresome taking wardrobe post photos is, but doing so helped both with appreciating what I have and with doing a little bit of long overdue organising my stuff, so it was worth the effort.

Coord 4: Valentines Day x Lunar New Year

| BtSSB Full of Stars “Bright Starry Night” JSK | vintage jacket and brooch | Enchantlic Enchantilly Crown of the Rose Princess tights | Vivienne Westwood x Melissa Anglomania heels | Innocent World Pearskin Dot Lace headbow | handmade bracelets and ring | Promised Land Creations earrings |

I've been on a bit of a roll of doing my lipstick in a way that fills my cupid's bow.

Velvet is amazing, but dang it clings onto everything!

I had a sort of informal goal for February to wear outfits that I’d be happy to wear on a date, whether they were lolita or not. Up until this point it hasn’t gone too well, but at least it motivated me when I did wear things. This coord idea was floating around in my head for a bit and after postponing it a few times, it ended up being worn on Lunar New Year Day itself, so the reds were perfectly timely. Usually when I dress up, I keep the outfit on for the rest of the day, but my flat is actually insanely cold and this coord was definitely more for the look than for practical reasons, so it only lasted a few hours, which is a shame. Had it been warmer, I think I would’ve enjoyed wearing it more.

*~*~*~*

Coord 5: Zoomentine’s Meet

| Metamorphose Gold Braid Tuck Pinafore JSK | Shinku Rose Tulle overdress | replica OTKs | Irregular Choice Total Freedom shoes | After Midnight flower half crown | Puvithel Crystal Heart necklace | Star Glazed Delights Brand Whore ring | handmade ring |

I probably could've piled on a little bit more on my head, but I was kind of running late and doing too much at the same time, so only stuck with this one.

I almost posted the more saucy detail shot, but then decided to keep things a bit more PG.

After freezing the day before to the point of changing out of my coord, I had serious second thoughts about this one. Sadly for me, I had set my mind on wearing this particular look, so I made sure to do everything humanly possible to be able to wear if for the whole meetup. And thankfully it worked out because I really enjoyed myself - both the coord and the meetup. My coord idea started off with the intention of being ero.Whether it ended up that way is debatable, nonetheless I enjoyed being a VDay harlot, which is all that matters. The meetup was really great too! Rather than being hosted by one of my local comms, a friend hosted it via the UK comm, so there were plenty of people I hadn’t met who are normally around London (and some joined from abroad). We had a Valentine’s Day themed quiz, which I managed to do ok in (meaning around top 10 out of 15), but more importantly had fun doing. I think I really needed this to be a success because I’d started feeling like my coords weren’t going the way I wanted to up until this point. Having one that I was really pleased with was the emotional turning point I needed to keep myself inspired and to keep me going. It prompted several of the following outfits that you’ll see further down in this post, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

*~*~*~*

Coord 6: Witch School Application

| Dear Celine Magic Book OP | Axes Femme cardigan | Angelic Pretty Crown Logo OTKs | Hush Puppies boots | offbrand hat, hair clip and ring | Le Petit Four ring | Enchantlic Enchantilly ring |

You can be witchy at any time of the year, not just in October.

Fun fact, I remembered about this hair clip purely because of doing my wardrobe post.

Have you ever seen someone’s coord and thought to yourself “I want to be part of that gang too”? This is what happened to me when I saw @kimbuucha and @paigeloe’s twinning coord with this print. They did a wonderful job putting their look together and I couldn’t help but look and see that I had pretty much all the components. So I can’t take credit for the outfit, I can only hope that they will accept my application to join their super cool gang and let me hang out with them. I reckon I could teach magical languages - or maybe cooking magic, but I feel like that witch teacher needs a nice apron more than the fur collar.

*~*~*~*

Coord 7: Hello 90s

| Angelic Pretty Cinema Doll JSK | A.R.W. blouse | offbrand jacket | Innocent World Origa OTKs | Bodyline shoes | offbrand hat, hair clip, bracelet and brooch | After Midnight necklace | Jane Marple ring | Angelic Pretty Chess Chocolate emblem brooch |

That hat is probably older than I am. Not by much, but nonetheless.

This detail photo pleases my Vivienne Westwood aesthetic appreciation side.

When you can't decide on which detail shot you prefer, share both.

Ever since I got this jacket, I’ve been itching to wear it. But whilst I have the all-tartan coord idea in my head, I wanted to try something less obvious first and landed on Cinema Doll. Honestly? I’m not sure if I’m channelling more Clueless or more Heathers, but I vibed with this coord very, very hard in the best possible way. It did kind of make me feel all kinds of 90s vibes, so I’m technically classing this coord as retro lolita, even though the very thought of 90s, which I remember so well, being retro hits me right in the heart. No doubts a variation of this combination will appear on this blog in the future with other dresses, this is will very quickly become a staple coord base.

*~*~*~*

Coord 8: Casual or Not?

| Metamorphose Bubble Bath skirt | pyjama top | offbrand jacket, patch and hair ties | Angelic Pretty Sealing Border OTKs | Irregular Choice High Scores shoes | handmade bracelets | Metamorphose clip |

Very messy twin buns and a faux fringe cover a multitude of sins.

I don't think I could ever commit to applying this patch (or the other ones @likeateacup gave me) permanently, but I do like the DIY solution of pinning it with a literal pin.

Once again I’m back at my undecided-but-recent-retro-pastel shenanigans using a base I already established to work. Except this time I took it even further into casual territory by wearing a pyjama top. It’s not that groundbreaking and the only reason for it was that the only T-shirt I own is black and I wanted that casual T-shirt vibe, so this was the next best thing. I might get a couple of cute T-shirts now that this is the third time I’m doing a coord with this vibe, which is clearly a recurring mood, but I won’t get too hung over that. For now I’m happy to keep reusing this pyjama top if I have to.

*~*~*~*

Coord 9: Larme Date

| Metamorphose Polka Dot Tiered skirt | offbrand top and shoes | Snag White Russian fishnets | Axes Femme earrings | Gravelvet choker | handmade bracelets |

I have almost run out of this lip gloss (it's over a lipstick, but still). And generally I've been wanting more lip glosses to bring back the early 2000s fantasy of your lips being literal mirrors of liquid with gloss. So watch this space, I guess...

This choker doesn't get enough love and where else to give it love than in a larme coord?

Speaking of ‘back at it again’, it’s been a while since I mashed lolita with larme. I can’t even tell you why I decided that now was the time to do it again. I noticed that this skirt was coming up next on my ‘last worn’ tracker and when racking my brain for coord ideas, larme was what came to mind. It may actually be more larme than lolita, particularly with my foregoing a hair accessory again, but I quite like it this way. Had I been going on a date, this is definitely something I’d consider wearing or at least go for a similar vibe. To take it back to the whole “February is a month of love because Valentine’s Day” idea.

*~*~*~*

Snuck this last outfit literally the day before the post was due to come out. As I said in the beginning, February felt like a month of two halves, not only in terms of weather, but also my mood and inspiration levels. They were pretty low in the beginning and the fact that not all of my outfit ideas were translating to worn reality as well as I would’ve liked, which didn’t help. But sometime mid-month, certainly after the Zoomentine’s coord, things clicked back into place. Granted, I had more ideas than energy to realise, since many of them were more on the OTT end, but still. It puts me on a good path for March, where I hope to realise some of those ideas and to hopefully enjoy some early spring time.

How was February for you?

1 Dress 4 Looks Take 45

Gothic lolita is really not my forte. In big part because I haven’t invested in the necessary pieces and my attempts at gothic always look really classic, but also because that’s just the substyle I’m least familiar with. Luckily, Haenuli’s Just One Bite, despite being my OG gothic dream dress, is still incredibly elegant, which makes coording it just that little bit easier. Hopefully this post will add some good coords to my bank of future outfits!

Look 1: Is This Goth?

| Haenuli x I Do Declare blouse | yoke, cuffs and ribbon belt from Meta’s Classical Sister | Innocent World Shanti OTKs | Hush Puppies boots | Vierve Vampur bonnet | offbrand flower clip | After Midnight necklace | Enchanted Dream Wear necklace |

I keep telling myself that I will stop using these blouses for flatlays because they’re a nightmare to make them look presentable, and then come up with these ideas that I simply have to try out. This is the best that I managed for this particular flatlay and it seems that the coord would work when worn too, but you never really know until you try. And I want to try this at some point. I may end up swapping the black flower clip for the black wig, but this is quite alright so far. It may be the most typically gothic outfit that I’ve put together without going all black.

Look 2: Lavender is Grey

| Chess Story Gift from Budapest blouse | Enchantlic Enchantilly The Crown of the Violet Princess tights | offbrand shoes | Cutie Creator headbow | detachable bow from the blouse | Gravelvet Iridescent Princess necklace | Peacockalorum brooch | offbrand brooch and ring |

This is me proving a point that lavender and grey are practically interchangeable. Yes, they are still two different colours, but just look how well all the lavender pieces work with this dress! I wish that I had something to add to the wrist, like black bracelets, but in the absence of anything either black or lavender, I kept things bare. But I should probably add some beads to my shopping list and make some bracelets. If I’m managing to use both my black and lavender pieces, neither of which is a common colours within my wardrobe, then it’s better to have those basics at the ready.

Look 3: White Queen

| Lady Sloth Snowflake blouse | Baroque Repose of Queen tights | Vivienne Westwood x Melissa Anglomania heels | offbrand crown | Strike a Pose pin | Voodoodolly ring | Le Petit Four Warrior Sacred Heart necklace |

Inspired completely by the jewellery, I wanted to create a look that was very regal and elegant, yet on the understated side. This one does exactly that and I want a reason to wear it. It’s astonishing that the bronze-y tone of the necklace ended up being a great match for the bronze-y tone of the ring, I hadn’t even thought of that and only noticed it when I laid the items side by side. If I was ever to upgrade this look slightly, it would be with armour pieces. Because a queen can be a warrior too! I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether this particular queen would be good or evil.

Look 4: Dark Wa

| Enchantlic Enchantilly The Crown of the Rose Princess tights | Cutie Creator headbow | Patisserie Pink Lock and Key brooch | vintage necklace | offbrand blouse, haori, obi, shoes, hair clip, brooch and gloves |

As usual, I leave the most experimental look for last. Although in this case I don’t think it needs that much further tinkering with, most of what I’m unsure of here is due to trying to fit a haori silhouette into a lolita one on a flatlay. I feel like this would work quite well worn and I might give it a go. The gloves are a choice, certainly, but I felt like there needed to be something there for interest and I wasn’t feeling any of my wrist cuffs. As I said, experimental, but I feel like this is more than workable!

In the end I put together and photographed six looks, and still ended up with about one and a half that I haven’t even tried (half because I had a version of one that I was more OTT). Some of those that I decided not to feature here are arguably more put-together, but I also feel that it’s because they’re safer. A more vintage-inspired elegant take on this dress with ivory isn’t is guaranteed to work, so while it’s nice to have tried it, I much prefer to feature the more out-of-the-box looks here. Ultimately though it all ends up in the coords bank, so all that’s left to do is wait for a suitable occasion to wear these.

Wardrobe Post 2021

* image by Mimi Jamora

This year instead of deluding myself that I won't be making a wardrobe post, I simply told myself that it doesn't have to be in January. It was going to be, but then other things happened and I procrastinated. Mainly because I didn't want to take all the new photos, post things and then have things arrive (namely my Puvithel order). However, I've accepted that a wardrobe post or spreadsheet will never be complete because of the nature of lolita wardrobes as things that are ever-changing, so here it is: wardrobe post 2021, at my own pace, as complete as it could be for now.

Despite pandemic being a very easy environment to fill the emptiness with shopping, I'm proud of myself for not going overboard. There are additions, but mostly small and thought throught. Some things have also gone, making room for items that simply work better for me. Wearing lolita more in 2020 also reminded me that I haven't necessarily been straying away from sweet - I still love it, to look at and to wear, and I've found out more about the kind of sweet that I enjoy wearing the most. Which means that fewer things will leave my possession in the immediate future, a couple may end up being added to facilitate that wardrobe better, and for the most part I'll likely keep working with what I have.

Because the world has still not recovered, my goals for 2021 are focused on wearing things and being creative with my lolita. You can read more about it here. There are plenty of coord ideas I'd like to give life to just with what I have so far, all of which will feature on my blog one way or another as soon as they are realised.

Just like last year, I'm focusing on detailing the info of main pieces and listing all other ones by brand only. However, you can always ask me where something is from if I haven't mentioned. Due to broken links on older wardrobe posts, I'm not linking those, but they are all under the wardrobe post tag, should you want to read through descriptions.

It's my cheapest main piece and whilst a little on the short side for my current preferences, I still love it.

Baroque x Sakizo Repose of Queen Teatime Dress set with overskirt (not pictured)
I have very fond memories modelling this at Dream Masquerade Carnival shortly after my own set arrived. This print is so lush and I love Sakizo's work!

BtSSB Soirée of the Beginning of My Memories JSK I
The last thing I bought in 2020 and a long time on-again-off-again wishlist piece - in a colourway I didn't anticipate myself getting, but which I actually love more. Miss Wannabe Scarlett O'Hara is mine now.

The first piece I bought directly from brand in the Kanazawa branch. It was a pretty literal 'shut up and take my money' kind of situation.

Alice and the Pirates Rosier Fleur JSK
I'm not sure whether it's the original or the re-release, though I feel like it might be the original. Either way, it's a stunning piece that pictures don't do justice.

Angelic Pretty Cinema Doll JSK (2018 MTO)
I am so glad I jumped on this MTO, this dress is absolutely stunning and I love it with all my heart. Thank you, AP, for not changing the fabric on this one.

Bought this to use as an underskirt, but I've actually been using it on its own a lot. It's a great piece for layering of all sorts, if you can, I recommend getting it.

This gets far more wear for work than in Lolita coords. Although as with any tiered cotton skirt, the ironing/steaming is a chore.

Another fantastic casual piece. As the cut is very classic A-line, it sometimes translates as more otome than lolita, but I don’t care, this is gorgeous. And did you know that the lining is also printed? That’s a detail I never knew I needed, but appreciate nonetheless!

Dangerous Nude Gobelin bloomers
Perfect bloomers don't exi... Nope, they do! Well, maybe if they were just a smidge bigger... Then they'd be perfect. But they're not far from it now!

Innocent World Georges Rose JSK
Promise I ironed it, it just wrinkles like crazy. It's a great fancy, but still sort of blending in kind of piece. Although I must say, I do wish Innocent World learned how to cut for people with actual boobs.

That gobelin fabric is the most gorgeous thing ever. And I love all the pops of sax on this colourway!

Angelic Pretty Flower Garden JSK
After being on and off my wishlist for a while, I found it for a price that was too good to say no to. It sticks out in my collection like a sore thumb and I still love it.

Violet Fane Otome Nostalgia skirt
Dare I say that this design won the lolita Internet in 2020? It's amazing and it literally evokes all kinds of nostalgia within my heart.

Innocent World White W Blade Tuck skirt (long)
Technically this probably isn't really lolita. Nonetheless, this is a great skirt and Innocent World White deserves to be included, especially as I've gone to the trouble of photographing all my completely offbrand bits too.

Bodyline L262 (altered)
Here is the very first Lolita dress I ever bought and I still love it. It's a very versatile piece and looks way nicer than you'd expect from Bodyline.

Metamorphose Polka Dots Tiered skirt
Yes, I know that I have a dress that’s basically the same thing. But this is Meta and was cheap, how could I have said no?

HeartE tartan JSK.
I don't know the official name of it. This piece is one of my most comfortable and I'm sad to have gotten into HeartE just before they closed. It always surprises me how many people compliment this dress in particular, since it's such a simple design that I wear more casually than in proper lolita ways
(especially as it's a touch short for lolita).

Metamorphose x Kamen Rider Gold Braid Tuck Pinafore JSK
A long time dream dress that I was finally able to get in 2020. It's so understated and full of detail, I'm over the moon to have it!

Alice and the Pirates Sheherazade ~ One Thousand and One Nights ~ JSK I
Another one where I find the cut extremely flattering on me. More of this kind of cuts, please! But without the weird back bow, just keep it simple, AatP.

You may think it’s an exaggeration, but this OP has changed my life. It’s comfortable, it’s versatile thanks to the detachable collar and cuffs, and it’s incredibly flattering. A firm favourite.

This is the most seasonal print I envision myself getting. Love it to bits, it's the best and basically wear the crap out of it each December. It's also super sturdy and warm as it's two layers of cotton.

The only mint piece in my collection, although it is a bluish mint. I've ended up getting a fair few pieces to match just this, but it's been totally worth it.

Metamorphose Bubble Bath skirt
I’ve no idea how it took me so long to discover this print. I’m simply grateful that once I did, I was able to find it so quickly. It’s CATS TAKING A BATH, how can I not love it?!

A long-standing dream dress that's finally mine. I love IW's simple take on sweet lolita! There were plenty of times when I almost gave in and bought it in brown, but I'm glad I didn't, it was 100% worth the wait.

Haenuli Lovely Memories JSK
That lace is everything! I absolutely love this dress and feel so elegant in it.

Lord, the skirt on this one never ends, which is painfuly obvious when ironing/steaming! But it's also such a comfortable and versatile dress, so I will live with the pain.

Bodyline L249 JSK
Second lolita dress I ever bought and while I still adore it, it is a touch short. Though in 2020 I finally figured out a good way around that, so I look forward to this new lease of life for this dress.

Lady Sloth/Casual Sloth Look at My Dreamy Sky - Day OP
Although it's from the casual range, it still works with lolita. This has been worn to a wedding, as well as just out and about, so even though it's from the casual range, it's still fancy enough if you need it.

Haenuli Whipped Cream Kitty JSK
This was a present from my ex-boyfriend for graduating with a 2:1. It has a matching waist ribbon, but I couldn't be bother to dig it out just for the photo as I don't wear it very often (if ever).

BtSSB Secret AIR MAIL from Sweet Kitty JSK
The kitties are adorable, I can't believe it took me this long to realise how good this print is, even though I remember it coming out.

Angelic Pretty Crystal Dream Carnival Tiered JSK
This was an instant dream dress, but the damn thing appeared just after I spent all my savings on Fantasy Theater. I was lucky to get it later without selling a kidney.

This is also a piece that I wear a lot to work. The print always gets noticed and complimented a lot. It's also the skirt I wear when travelling, since it's light and means I can wear my petticoat instead of trying to pack it. So far it's been to 7 countries, if we include its country of origin. And I'm sure it will see more.

Mary Magdalene Paulina JSK
My namesake and ultimate dream dress. You can pry that from my cold, dead fingers, I ain't ever getting rid of this! Everything about this dress is simply perfect to me.

Resailan Jewelry Box JSK I (altered)
I love this print, but the original cut wasn't working for me, so I had it altered. Now it's a shape that flatters me more and while I'd still change a few bits, I can at least wear it and feel good about myself.

Dear Celine Magic Book OP
This is such a great print. Whilst I got it with the intention of wearing it more casually, it just hasn't quite happened - but the potential is there!

Metamorphose Wizarding Lesson ~ The Trainee Wizard ~ pants
My first and only pair of ouji shorts. Meta wins the game with so many detachable pieces. Although Meta always wins the game in my eyes.

After Midnight The First Semester JSK
This cut is the best: super comfy and super flattering. Definitely want more green in my wardrobe - and more underbust (or near underbust) cuts!

BtSSB Polonaise Brillante ~ Ideas of a Maiden ~ Apron JSK
This was an insta-dream dress, Baby did so well capturing the essence and detail of Polish national costume and I pretty literally cried when I finally got my hands on it at BtSSB Osaka. The staff must’ve thought I was a bit mad, but I don’t care, this is my child and I can’t wait to keep evolving and upping the Polish vibes in my coords with this!

L'Esprit de la Noblesse La Bibliotheque JSK
This design stole my heart at first sight and the dress then conquered it the moment I put it on. I really want more from L'Esprit de la Noblesse now!

My first gothic piece (despite the very sweet name). Excuse the heavy editing, I wanted to showcase some of that flocked detail. The gold specks is actually glitter. This looks much better in movement, so I recommend checking out the lookbook video I did with this dress.

Haenuli Just One Bite JSK (Jacquard)
Although not the first gothic dress I purchased, this was the first one I couldn’t get out of my head. And I’m so happy that I was able to get it during Haenuli’s Farewell Reservations, it’s such a stunning piece.
