3 beverages and Lolita outfits to match (25)

I feel like what comes to mind to a lot of people with at least a vague idea of Lolita, is a traditional English afternoon tea, with tea in dainty porcelain cups and cute, bitesize sweets. But let’s face it, tea isn’t everyone’s cup of tea (see what I did there?), and even those who like it drink other things as well. The good thing about beverages is that as long as it looks cute, anything can be loliable – which means either hiding less pretty things in lovely cups or glasses (who says you can’t drink fizzy drinks out of teacups?), or decorating the hell out of something (hot chocolate, milkshakes and cocktails lending themselves best to that task).

Since there are three drinks to coordinate outfits around, I decided to go for one alcoholic, one hot and one cold. All three are things I enjoy, but don’t really drink that much of or don’t drink them too often for various reasons. So in turn I hope that you see those inspirations in the coords I created here.

Angelic Pretty Twinkle Glitter Knit cardigan review

Let me be honest with you, I nearly drooled over this cardigan the first time I saw it. But before committing to get it, I also spent ages on eBay, Etsy, Taobao and AliExpress - not even to find something similar, but only to find a cardigan in gold. There seems to be a big deficiency in that department: all the things I found were either just a darker shade of yellow, or looked very shiny and metallic, which wouldn't work with my Lolita style or wardrobe.

So when payday came, I had to get it. And soon as well, I was all worried about it selling out, though since all colours are still in stock in the online shop, I can see now that this was unnecessary. Still, better to have it sooner rather than later.

Offbrand princess sleeve blouse review

Right, if the circumstances were different, I wouldn't really review an offbrand piece. But they aren't. What happened was that I found a reasonably priced blouse on eBay by typing in “Lolita blouse” and despite the whole affair having the potential to end up badly – it didn’t. The eBay seller is still there, selling these, which in my eyes further justifies writing a review.
But let’s go back to the beginning.

Birthday Afternoon Tea coord

On Friday, January 8th I turned 24 years old. It was one of the quieter birthdays I had, and yet I don't feel like I missed out on anything by not having a big party. Quite the opposite, for a quiet birthday it was one of the better ones I had.

Having had a lovely dinner with my parents on Friday itself (where the staff at the restaurant surprised me by singing "Happy Birthday"), I spent the weekend with my boyfriend, with Sunday being dedicated to a traditional English afternoon tea. That simply screams Lolita, and I did not wait to deliver.

I am not a pink Lolita

I felt inspired to write this as I spend more and more time thinking about my Lolidrobe and how to make it more versatile, how to get the most wear out of the main pieces I already own with carefully chosen builder pieces. My newly obtained income allows me to buy things like blouses, which are a great way of changing a main piece and its overall look and feel.

Let me say this now: it's not that I don't like pink as a colour, for Lolita or anything else, in fact I have pink nails as I type this post out. And while my regular wardrobe might not have a lot of pink in it, it's still there. I don't hate on pink as a colour and I don't judge people simply for choosing to wear that colour, whatever their style.

2016 Lolita goals

I guess it's the same thing as New Year resolutions - except that resolutions are never kept, whereas goals are supposed to be achievable. This is a copy of the list of goals I posted as a comment on EGL, but for the purposes of the blog and for myself I decided to make these into SMART targets. What are those, you ask? SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused and time-bound, and it's a strategy meant to force people (usually school students or office staff) to create goals that are easier to achieve and more manageable. For ease of writing this post, the "heading" of the goal will be what I posted on EGL, and then I'll elaborate on the SMART part underneath.
