Non-lolita shoes appreciation post

In words of an actual legend, “These shoes are $300 fucking dollars… Let’s get them!” Bibliotheca’s theme for May is shoes and I am taking this as justification for going virtual window shopping. Because if my taste in lolita clothes is expensive, then so is my taste in shoes, apparently. All of these would work really nicely with lolita, but could equally spice up less frilly outfits. Peruse at your own risk, I am not responsible for passing on any shoe cravings this post may induce.

Irregular Choice

An obvious first stop, mixing lolita fashion with Irregular Choice shoes seems to be a tale as old as time. The whimsical designs pair so perfectly with sweet lolita and whilst based on my own collection not every model turns out to be as comfortable to wear as it is stunning to look at, sometimes they’re just too pretty to resist.

John Fluevog

The name first came across my radar when someone commented that AatP’s cabriole leg heel was actually a copy of a Fluevog design. Since then I have joined the mailing list and keep stalking until a design that meets my aesthetic and price criteria comes along.

American Duchess

Another classic, American Duchess shoes seem to be on lolitas radar mainly because of their Colette boots. They even list lolita as one of the genres on their own websites, so surely the connection is clear.

We also love a brand who knows their audience and makes them feel seen.

BAIT Footwear

A very recent addition to my shoe radar, this brand seems to specialise in vegan shoes in vintage reproduction styles (anything later than what American Duchess does). Though fortunately somewhat cheaper than the other ones, so who knows, maybe this won’t be just window shopping after all.

Memery Shoes

Whilst much more tame in colour selection compared to American Duchess, Memery Shoes come with a recommendation from a friend who has a pair from them. And after my most recent trip to the Festival of Vintage in York, I realised how big a difference a more historically accurate pair of shoes can make. It's not that different with lolita coords, really, and these would be excellent for classic!

Hot Chocolate Design

Many of my friends who own the Hot Chocolate Design flats have raved about their comfort. And whilst the particular shape of their Mary Jane flats is not quite my cup of tea, they are undoubtedly rounded enough to work with sweet lolita. Those heels though...

What are your favourite non-lolita specific shoe brands that work really well with lolita? Sometimes, whether due to size needs or style preferences, lolita shoes, as cute as they are, just are not cutting it, so having a good range of options bookmarked on the side is helpful. Let’s share those resources to whoever needs them - and sigh wistfully at all those shoes we want, but cannot yet have.

    1. I'm glad you found something new. These posts can often feel like reiterating the same few things that everyone is already aware of, so when even one thing is new to someone, it feels like it's done its job properly ^^
