Lolidrobe Reassessment Post 2017.2

I hit a spending streak and am starting to seriously lack storage space for all this stuff. I need to fill my time better so that I’m not mindlessly browsing all these sales (though so far I’ve had little luck).

New additions
These were a lot more numerous than I had hoped them to be.

  • 3 JSKs (1 Sweet in blue, 1 Sweet in white and 1 Classic in ivory*)
  • 1 OP (Classic in ivory)
  • 1 blouse (Sweet-Classic in sax)
  • 3 cutsews (1 Classic in green, 1 Sweet in ivory and 1 Sweet/Larme in lavender)
  • 1 pair of shoes (Classic in ivory)
  • 2 pairs of socks (1 Classic/Sweet in white and 1 Classic in green)
  • 1 handbag (gold x white)
  • 24 pieces of accessories (1 Sweet headbow in blue, 1 Classic headbow in ivory*, 1 Sweet brooch in pink, 1 Classic brooch in gold, 1 character necklace in gold, 1 character hat in navy [DIY item], 2 berets in wine and sky blue, 4 DIY bracelets, 1 DIY sash, 1 DIY rosette brooch, 1 OTT Sweet headdress [not pictured], 1 Classic brooch in lavender [raffle win], 1 Sweet ring in mint [gifted], 2 Sweet necklaces [gifted] and 5 sets of Sweet bow clips)
  • 1 hoop skirt (not pictured)
  • 1 lucky pack*

I won’t lie: I thought things were much worse than this, although this includes my impulse brand new preorder and AP Paris purchase, so price-wise things weren’t necessarily that good. But then again, I’m expecting the next instalment to be pretty hard on my wallet because of London and summer sales. No doubt that will make this quarterly haul of 38 items look laughable…

Possible new looks
Once again, I like to think that these additions improve my wardrobe’s versatility and allow me to create more outfits and better put together outfits. Although as the items I buy become smaller, the changes become less noticeable – except for my new green things!

How to make my Lolidrobe go even further?
Right now the biggest thing on my agenda is completing the base sets for the colours that I’ve added. I already have incomplete pink and brown base sets (remaining items are listed below), but now I’ve added dark green to this list. Although whether I’ve been lucky or whether green is more common than I thought, I only need some headwear now and I know that Cutie Creator on Taobao carries exactly what I need. Which should mean no excuses for pink and brown bits, yet still the right pieces elude me…

Also, the gods of practicality have not been on my side: finding flat Lolita-appropriate boots in my size is almost impossible! When I finally resorted to putting in a custom order with An*tai*na, this turned out to be way more expensive than I was willing to pay, so I’ll have to find somewhere else to compromise. Or wait a bit longer. Most likely both.

And so my wishlist of items to improve wardrobe cohesiveness hasn’t changed much, nonetheless here it is:

  • Brown or white/off-white x brown OTKs
  • Headbows (pink and green)
  • Flat boots (white or ivory) – might change to flat-ish/under 6cm heel
  • Long and short sleeve cutsews (various colours I already have in my wardrobe)
  • Short winter coat/jacket (ivory or white)
  • Navy long sleeve bolero or short cardigan

Current wishlist
I feel some sense of accomplishment in having obtained two items that have been on my wishlist for a while (the AatP bag and Baby’s Secret AIR MAIL JSK). It’s nice to cross things off it for a change. Mind you, that doesn’t mean that I haven’t been adding more to it, though with Lolibrary still not allowing access to our accounts it’s been harder to keep track. However, here’s a screenshot, partly reconstructed from the last wishlist screenshot I posted and partly from the wishlist I keep on my phone.

New Year’s goals: progress summary
Things are moving slowly, however, they are moving and are moving forward.

  1. Did I have the agreed amount of money in my account at all times: Yes, both the original and the revised sum.
  2. Did I try Wa-Lolita: Still no.
  3. Have I gone to Summer ILD: YES! Absolutely loved it!
  4. Did I apply to model in a Lolita fashion show: I’ve applied now, still waiting to hear about the decision, but technically that’s a yes.

Since we’re past the halfway point of this year it seems fitting to update this list of goals somehow, since it seems set on at least ¾ being achieved, but I struggle to think of something I’d like to accomplish that’d be measurable and that I’m not doing already. Maybe it should be something like “no Lolita purchases after DMC which are not on the strict wishlist or the need list”, though that could be tough since many cheap and small things, like jewellery or other accessories from AliExpress or eBay, can still count as Lolita purchases. I’ll have a think. Ideally, I’d love to add an event to attend as a goal for the second half of the year, but I’m unaware of any Lolita events I could attend – do you know of any?

  1. So many pieces. I think mine id more reasonable, 4 bags(2 are totes, one is shopper, one porchette), a pair of wine shoes, a skirt, a black headbow, 5 otks, one knee socks and a pair of thights. A brooch and 3 necklaces.
My list is more ivory blouses/cutsews and new petticoats. Ivory socks would be gold, but again I have bought many so many socks.

    1. True, my a little is someone else's a lot and there are probably people out there who'd make me feel like this. Though as a lover of Lolita socks I don't think there is such a thing as too many socks to buy. (She said the day she placed an order for two more pairs... ^^"""") Are you looking for enormous poof petticoats or something more tame? Ever since I got my hoop I recommend that to anyone looking for gigantic poof, but that wouldn't work so well for those who prefer a bit less.

    2. More tame, most of my pieces can hold big ammounts of puff, but I never liked when dresses feel stopped out like a teddy Bear, i like my dresses still has movement and sometimes folds. And my dresses tends to be light in materials too, so a cage skirt might be show through.

    3. I think in that case maybe something from Taobao or looking for a used one. The Classical Puppets petticoat I got deflated a little quite quickly, so when worn on it's own it's quite a nice casual poof, but can still be layered for more volume. And I saw a few people selling petticoats on Facebook sales groups, which could save you from customs etc.

  2. With wardrobe season upon us (!) I think this is a great companion article to the wardrobe posts! I usually put this sort of thing at the end of my w-posts but by the time people scroll to that point they're probably worn out from seeing hundreds of pictures from multiple posts, and not in the mood for reading :p

Do try Wa-lolita sometime! We're getting much greater variety than before in terms of styles and cuts, it's a wonderful time to try it out.

    1. If I only did a review like this once a year along with the wardrobe post, I probably wouldn't have the energy to go this in-depth. It's easier to do a little more often than a lot all in one go.

Maybe this year will be the year. I don't want to buy a Wa printed JSK, which is the easiest way to do Wa-lolita, since I like my pieces to be as versatile as possible, but I do have some yukatas I may give a go. It won't be easy, but maybe this year will be the year.
