Create a Nautical Coordinate

Eeek, this week’s Lolita Blog Carnival prompt is all about nautical coordinates! Now, I know that “nautical” can be interpreted in several different ways, however, I love sailor lolita too much to resist. It embodies several of the things that I like: nods to retro fashion (rockabilly and 1950’s styles often use sailor references), summer seaside vibes, comfort of wear and the cute look. There’s no way that I’m doing any other kind of coord here!

While my sailor coord base is pretty much the same – the sailor collar cardigan from Hell Bunny and Innocent World’s Archor OTKs – the fun is in selecting the main piece. In my entire collection I have only one specifically sailor piece, which is a Meta skirt, and a few ones plain enough to work with anything . I’ve also done a sailor-style outfit with completely non-sailor prints, like Whipped Cream Kitty or Fantastic Theater. However, today I want to finally finish the coord that is probably the most classic retro sailor look here and I pulled out my beloved Bodyline’s L262 JSK.

OTKs | Imperial Fiddlesticks headbow | Sweet Dolly

This look is so timeless and versatile that it would work for so many occasions, from dressy to casual. In its more dressy form I’d wear that with my hair curled and with my hair straight for a casual version. Quick black winged eyeliner and red lipstick is all the makeup this needs. Honestly, just looking at this coord makes me want to put it on and go somewhere fancy! Though having said this, I’ll be away in Blackpool next weekend, so I might just pack this with me and take it for a spin by the seaside (potentially with some alterations, depending on the weather forecast). Because what’s better than wearing a sailor coord by the seaside? Nothing!
