Create a Lolita Prompt Challenge

Lolita prompt challenges have become increasingly popular in the last couple of years. The rise of social media like Instagram, that focus on photos rather than writing, made it easy to share outfits and detail shots, which are less involved than writing a whole post about your favourite brand etc. This week the Lolita Blog Carnival challenge was to create a prompt challenge like this, so here is my take on it!

I would call my prompt challenge ’12 Days of Frillmas’ and, as you probably have guessed, it would take place over the twelve days of Christmas, so from December 25^th to January 5^th inclusive.

As much as I enjoy prompt challenges that cover the whole month, I feel that the length and effort necessary put many people off, especially when you lead busy lives with 9-5 jobs plus commute. Something shorter and falling around a time that is traditionally either given or taken as days off would make it easier for more people to participate in. And no missing out on precious daylight if you live in the Northern Hemisphere.

So what would the prompts actually be?

Day 1 (December 25^th) – Festive Family Dinner

Day 2 (December 26^th) – Your Greatest Bargain

Day 3 (December 27^th) – Cosy Day In

Day 4 (December 28^th) – Another Winter Holiday

Day 5 (December 29^th) – Five Gold Rings

Day 6 (December 30^th) – Something You’ve not Worn This Year

Day 7 (December 31^st) – Fireworks

Day 8 (January 1^st) – Try Something New

Day 9 (January 2^nd) – Back to Work

Day 10 (January 3^rd) – Lucky Pack Season

Day 11 (January 4^th) – Most Flattering Piece

Day 12 (January 5^th) – Preparing for the Three Kings

The prompts are specific enough to make it a challenge, yet still vague enough that anyone could take part. I remember reading through some of the prompt challenges like Frilloween and while their creators did put effort to make them style inclusive, when you’re not into Gothic lolita, it is a bit too hard to come up with a coord centred around bats or skulls. I’m sure it’s possible, but when it’s one of thirty one outfits to think of on top of your day job and all other responsibilities, I don’t have enough energy to think outside the box to find something that fits. And my need for closure and completion wouldn’t allow me to do a prompt challenge where I purposefully skip the prompts I dislike.

Will I do this challenge myself? Not this year. I will be away from home from Christmas Day until around New Year, so I physically won’t be able to. If you fancy having a go at this, then by all means do – and tag me, so I could see what you came up with! I’m very interested in your takes on these different themes and how you will let your own style shine through them.
