Create a Coord Based on a Book
Lolita Blog Carnival’s coord prompts are great. They are
broad and allow a multitude of interpretations and ways of approaching the theme,
and today the challenge is to create a coord based on a book.
Normally I would’ve presented a flatlay here. However, I’m
currently still obsessed with Sakizo’s Girl Meets Sweets
and have been wanting to do a coord inspired by her illustrations, but right
now the only one I could put together with my own wardrobe would essentially be
taking my Baroque x Sakizo collaboration set, which isn’t particularly
interesting. So instead I created not one, but two collages of coords
inspired by the outfits from that book with stock pictures from Wunderwelt. Why Wunderwelt? Well, mainly because
their stock photos are easy to put into visually pleasing collages, but also
because they stock Abilletage tights which I feel are the fashion garment
embodiment of Sakizo’s art.
In general I feel that the key to a coord that pays homage
to Sakizo is layers. The illustrations and the outfits are extremely rich in
detail: ruffles, lace, jewels, frills, bows, fabric textures, embellishments,
the pieces of sweets… All of these elements give off a very Rococo opulence
vibe, regardless of whether the outfit’s style is more lolita or more lingerie,
and you cannot achieve that without layering multiple pieces. Hopefully even
despite the way the collages are set out you can imagine how this would look
put together into a whole.
| Angelic Pretty Aphrodite OP | Abilletage Ramage short corset | Abilletage corset OTKs | Atelier Pierrot shantung frill skirt | Queen Bee Classical Frame pumps | Morun x Muuna Stoik all-lace veil clip | Corgi Corgi rose frill headband | Q-Pot pearl meringue ribbon necklace | Enchantlic Enchantilly Dolled-up Pinky crown ring | |
The first coord is somewhat of a nod to the Wedding Cake
outfit. In this particular case I actually
want the ivories to be a little bit mismatched – it creates a certain depth to
the outfit and in my personal opinion, ivories and creams lend themselves well
to slight mismatch in colours (as long as you don’t have one that’s almost
white next to some that are practically yellow). Of course, there probably
would’ve been more jewellery: more rings, maybe a few longer strings of pearls,
some earrings etc. to convey the opulence even better. There simply wasn’t
enough room on the collage for all of that without making it look messy. And I
would’ve loved a slightly classier, less chunky shoe with this outfit, but at
the time I was putting those together there simply wasn’t a pair on Wunderwelt
that worked better. Overall, I think this is a good attempt at an outfit
inspired by one from Sakizo’s book and I regret that this OP does not come in
my size, since it would satisfy my fancy nonsense box on my wishlist.
| Atelier Pierrot Ivan OP | Enchantlic Enchantilly rose lace ribbon corset | Abilletage Victorian corset tights | Atelier Pierrot shantung frill skirt | Alice and the Pirates cabriole ribbon shoes | Krad Lanrete Transilvania moonlight headdress | Alice and the Pirates frill bustle | Abilletage Noir lace collar | Alchemy Gothic Venetian Vanity ring | |
And here is a second coord, primarily because I couldn’t
decide which one of the two I liked better. They went in slightly different
directions, so while the first one is taking more inspiration from Sakizo’s
lolita outfits, this one takes more from the darker cabaret and Victoriana costumes that she
draws. Wine and black is a classic colour combination that features in a lot of
Sakizo’s artwork, making this almost an easy ‘inspired by’ outfit. However, I
feel like this one nailed the layers down a little bit better thanks to the
corset, bustle and collar. Again,
there probably would’ve been more jewellery if I could fit it nicely into the
collage, although what I had in mind wasn’t really available on Wunderwelt. I
would love to include some brooches for extra pizzaz, maybe add a black lace
Venetian mask too – and I’m torn between adding some long black pearls or
leaving the collar to be the sole neck accessory. Ideally I would’ve put this
coord with the same heels in black, but there weren’t any available, so I
prioritised the style of the shoe over the colour. But overall I feel like this
coord is something that could feature in Girl
Meets Sweets – after Sakizo added actual sweets to it to make it relevant,
of course. Though actually it’d probably be in the beverages section as an actual glass of red wine.
So here you have it – two outfits inspired by a book.
Honestly, I would happily wear either of those, so since I can’t, I will just
have to work harder on creating a Sakizo-inspired coordinate with what I have.
And try to not make it use the Repose of
Queen entire set. Maybe Baroque and Sakizo will release another
collaboration this year? They’ve done one every year since 2014, but there was
nothing last year, so here’s hoping!
Anyway, make sure to check out what kinds of books other
bloggers participating in this week’s Lolita Blog Carnival were inspired by and
what outfits they put together.
Ohhhhhhh me likey! You're so right about layering being a big part of Sakizo look, and I think you nailed it here.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I could probably sit down with this book for hours, just recreating the various outfits as full lolita coordinates, it was so much fun. And with all this layering, it's also greay practice to figuring out how to make your own coords more intricate and have more depth.
DeleteI love the coords you did! The artwork in the book is beautiful <3
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Sakizo's art is so gorgeous, I could stare at it for hours and still keep finding new details to admire - not unlike lolita dresses. ^^
DeleteAhh this is lovely!! What a cool choice of inspiration, I love Sakizo's work, I'm working on a cosplay of her Fig Cake! That wedding cake coord is what fluffy dreams are made of ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteOooh, that's exciting, fig cake has some gorgeous colours! I'd love to see it once you finish and wear it. Sakizo is an endless source of inspiration, my obsession will last a while and I'll have to track where I can buy more of her work whilst I'm in Japan.
